USA October 2008

See photos from the SOAR (Spin Off Autumn Retreat) at the Pocono Mountains, then a talk for Madison Knitter's Guild and classes for Knitters Treat and finally a talk for Milwaukee Knitting Guild. It is a long story - lots of photos. I will try to make it short.

I gave a color class. u

q This is what the color class showed at the end of our 3 wonderful and colorful days.

q One of the great spinners who got a scholarship were Maggie who had her tote bag with spindles with her everywhere. Here she is with her Peruvian doll.

q Guess who I met at the SOAR ... Right ... The Yarnharlot Stephanie Pearl Mc Fee.

p I am sorry - I do not know the name of this designer, who designed her own colorful vest. Beautiful - isn't it?

p u I met my realtives Don and Diane from De Pere at Quivey's Grove, where we had a very good lunch and enjoyed being together again.

p See the huge wheel with yarn - fun!

p A look into the shop - see how many rooms - and Ruth!

p We had coffee  too at the porch - therefore the leaf.

p Monday night I talked for Madison Knitter's Guild - and can you believe it - there were 240 people there - not because of me - but they are so many knitters!!!

p And see some of the knitters were wearing my designs. Arn't they sweet?

p One in my class showed her very personal edition of the Zigzag vest - I loved it. She is an artist - and I visited her website and bought one of her paintings. See for yourself: www.sarahaslakson.com

p q This is the Ruhama's in Milwaukee

p Milwaukee Knitting Guild had me for a talk and they were more than a hundred knitters.

p Many of the knitters showed their Vivian Høxbro designs.
p On the last day I went to Milwaukee Art Museum. It is just a wonderful experience. I love it.

t Pocono Manor, PA, where the SOAR was taking place this year. The SOAR is an Interweave spinning retreat.

t They all knitted a color wheel. Her is Gabriella with her color wheel.

pq Impressions from the color class.

t Work with complimentory/opposite colors.
pt Working/works inspired by art-postcards.

p Talking about/admiring the results.

p Another colorful element of the SOAR were the 3 Peruvians who shared their knowledge with us and they struggled hard on preserving the traditional textile works in the Cusco Region in Peru.

p We did not starve - here is a small corner of the breakfast table.
p The market. Lots and lots of wool and all sorts of stuff.
pq Saturday night's Spin In with live Blue Grass music and hundreds of wheels, spinning, talk, laughter and fun.
t Louet gave the Peruvians a portable wheel - very sweet and generous.
p Next destination was Knitters Treat and Ruth Sybers who brought me to this hotel - more Swiss than Switzerland.

t
The restaurant were in an old stable and Don could almost hear the horses from his fathers stables at home many, many years ago.
p Later that day I went to see Lakeside Fibers a great shop.
p And this wall - I felt almost like home - but it should have been Harrisville yarn. Too bad!
p Here is the part of the shop with a caf'e facing the lake.
p Beacuse there were colorful leaves everywhere.
p I signed a lot of books there.
p I taught my classes in the Dining Room, a great restaurant (see http://www.209main.com/) owned by Ruth daughter an son in law. I can recommend it if you are in that area.
p Hee is some of the results from the color class - veru nice!
p On my way to Milwaukee I saw this great pumpkin-shop along the road.
p There were many knitters trying the models on in the Ruhama's - lots of fun!
p Here is just the right outfit for the Abstract Stole.
p Dawn was so beautiful in the NAVAJO Jacket. Thanks for modeling it.
